Feature Friday: Morgan Clark
Morgan Clark, Founder of STL Sitter is a St. Louis Native, born and raised in University City and graduate of Whitfield High School. Morgan left St. Louis in 2008 to attend The Ohio State University on a field hockey scholarship.
While living in Columbus, Morgan began working as a babysitter and marketing intern for Amanda Knapp at Sitting Made Simple. After a year of learning the business from both the provider and business side, she was impressed with the model and the network that Amanda had created.
After graduating with a Bachelors Degree, Morgan left Columbus, and spent several months traveling the Coast of New Zealand. In 2013 she moved back to St. Louis permanently and shortly after began working as a Nanny for a local St. Louis Family.
After building many relationships with families throughout the St. Louis area, Morgan quickly learned that the demand for reliable and safe childcare that is also convenient to busy families was great. And she couldn’t get Amanda Knapp’s Sitting Made Simple out of her head.
In October of 2014 Morgan created STL Sitters modeled after the Columbus based Babysitting Service, Sitting Made Simple.
Here’s the Rest of the Interview:
What made you want open STL Sitter?
I was excited about the potential of filling a huge gap in reliable providers and families in need of reliable, and responsible sitters!
What excites you the most about your work?
Getting to see the impact our service on families and sitters throughout our city!
What is your biggest challenge?
Keeping up with demand!
How do you find harmony or balance between being a mom and a business owner?
I am still new to the working mom title, but being present and not sweating the small stuff are two things I’m constantly reminding myself!
Tell us about your family.
My husband and I have been together since high school, he works in the finance industry, and recently joined the STLSitter staff! In march, we welcomed our first child, Henry Wilder. We reside in Ladue, and in our free time we love to travel, renovate houses (I’m a listened realtor, he’s super handy) be outdoors, and spend time with our three Labradors, Carter, Scout and Chief!
If you could pick anything, what would your super power be?
Teleportation. I could be on the beach in Thailand and then make it back for a work event in the evening!
What one piece of advice do you have for a mom that needs your service?
Just try it! I often find that getting over the initial fear/anxiety/insecurity about something is the hardest part. I assure you STLSitter can make an impact on your life, if you let it!
