Here we go, day 1!
Being a mom today is just about impossible, no matter choice we make, there is a critic on one side or the other. When we look outside ourselves for approval, we can feel defeated and overwhelmed.
Instead, we need to turn our attention inside ourselves, because what is really needed to be a “good mom” is to simply be our best self, right now, as we are. There are 7 steps for us to focus on to strive for that best self everyday. Take them one day at a time!
Day 1 is PRAY
We all need a spiritual connection, it allows us to find a peace and to recognize something bigger than ourselves. Your beliefs may be different than mine, you may pray to a different God or to the universe, you may meditate, chant or get down on your knees – but the connection and need is the same.
Do you know what happens when life creates stress, drama, trouble, trial. You feel the pressure. If you don’t have a release valve, eventually you explode. Emotionally, physically, spiritually, you break.
-Mark Driscoll, Five Benefits of Prayer
This is true for all of us, all of the difficulties of life build up and prayer is how we let it all go.
In moments of frustration, in times of fear, when we don’t know what to do next or how to move forward…we need to pray.
When we’re filled with joy or excitement, in those moments our sweet little ones smile up at us…pray for that too.
Just Pray huh? This is easier said then done…
I want to figure things out myself and I forget about prayer until I almost reach that breaking point. I’ve already yelled or cursed, maybe even stormed out of the room. Or maybe I’m already heartbroken about something not working out.

Starting with prayer (or at least finding it along the way!) would help me approach a situation with a calm head, find the right words to say or bring me down when my blood is starting to boil…like when he’s jumping around inside the car instead of getting into his carseat and I’m so very late already!
Then it all comes pouring out and I’m amazed at how different I feel afterwards. I go from the heights of stress and then find myself able to take a deep breath again.
